Decarbonisation and other environmental priorities

Toyota Material Handling Europe is serious about reducing its environmental impact: we are reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the entire supply chain, with the goal of net zero emissions across the whole value chain by fiscal year 2041.

Progress towards net zero

Our targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2024. The Scope 1 and 2 targets are aligned with the 1.5°C pathway. Our commitments:

  • reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by fiscal year 2031.
  • reduce Scope 3 emissions by 25% by fiscal year 2031.
  • reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by fiscal year 2041.

Direct reductions come first, and residual emissions are neutralised in line with SBTi criteria.

Monitoring and preventing pollution

We continuously monitor and limit the use of potentially polluting substances. When they are necessary, they are used in small quantities and under controlled conditions. Factories, sales companies and logistics centres have procedures for preventing and reporting environmental incidents.

We manage supply chain risks through the Supplier Code of Conduct, including ISO 14001 requirements for strategic suppliers and monitoring through EcoVadis, and we work with suppliers to reduce substances of very high concern (SVHC) in line with the REACH regulation.

Priority: circularity

Circularity is one of the pillars of our sustainability strategy. We work towards longer product life, less waste and a higher share of recycled materials: we refurbish parts, extend truck life and are building a European network for lithium recycling.

The refurbishment centre in Ancenis (France), opened in 2021 on 3,000 m², repairs and refurbishes used trucks according to the Toyota Production System and delivers them across Europe.
